On Sunday morning there was an accident in front of the hotel next door. A bicyclist was in the middle of the street. I do not know the details because I did not see the accident happen. I just checked out the scene from my balcony to see if anybody had already called for help. When I checked the scene a few minutes later, I saw that the police had arrived and was stunned to see a police car standing there – the police station is maybe only 260 feet away. Now I started to wonder: Are the police officers too slow on foot? Are they not allowed to answer a call and leave for the scene without their patrol car?

Getting back to their police station definitely took the officers much longer than walking back there because the area where I live consists of one-way-streets only and they needed to head away from their station to get back to it.

Am Sonntagvormittag hatte ein Radfahrer mitten auf der Straße vor dem Hotel nebenan einen Unfall. Ich habe keine Ahnung, was der Grund war, da ich den Unfall nicht gesehen habe. Ich habe nur von meinem Balkon geschaut, um zu sehen, ob er Hilfe bekam oder ich jemanden hätte rufen sollen. Als ich ein paar Minuten später noch einmal nachschaute, sah ich, dass die Polizeit mittlerweile eingetroffen war und war überrascht, ein Polizeiauto zu sehen, obwohl die Polizeistation nur max. 80 m entfernt ist. Ich habe mich gewundert: Sind die Polizisten so langsam zu Fuß, dass sie mit dem Auto fahren müssen? Oder gibt es eine direktive, dass sie immer ein Polizeiauto nehmen müssen, wenn sie zu einem Einsatz gerufen werden?

Auf alle Fälle war der Weg zurück zur Polizeistation viel länger und die Polizisten brauchten mehr Zeit zurückzukehren, als wenn sie per Fuß gelaufen wären, da die Gegend, in der ich wohne, nur aus Einbahnstraßen besteht und die Polizisten erst einmal weg von ihrer Polizeistation fahren mussten, um zu ihr zurückkehren zu können.
