There have been quite a few fires in Wellington in the last weeks. The fire trucks can be heard rather frequently. We had a fire again on Willis Street, across from work, tonight. Fortunately, the building was up for lease and thus nobody inside who could have gotten hurt.

This morning’s sky looked interesting because the cloud cover was almost razor-sharp over the mountain range.

Tomorrow we will have a full moon, but I don’t know if I will have the opportunity to take a picture of it. So I better took one today. The moon stands fairly above the National War Memorial and an apartment building.

Evacuation plan for emergencies – 2010-07-23

Not that I already needed it, but the evacuation plans and very visible alarm systems are a novelty for me. You basically have to report to a designated person in case of an emergency of any kind in your building, no matter whether apartment or office building.

It’s good to have such a plan, but let’s hope we won’t need it.

You see constructions like this one all around Wellington. In Europe you would think that they are bus shelters. Not so (necessarily) in Wellington. Usually, you find them here at intersections with traffic lights where people have to wait. As it rains quite a bit in Wellington, these serve as rain shelters. However, if you are a true Wellingtonian, you don’t need them because you are well used to the rain, as the people on this picture attest to.

"The Young and Witless IV" is the current show of the Wellington Improvisation Troupe. It’s a soap opera that is improvised all the way through.

I finally made it to a show and it was great to see an improv again after a long time.

Rental car agencies usually have a drop box for people who bring back a car after hours. This car rental in Wellington does not bother with a box, but offers the hole in the garage door. Let’s hope that people really only drop their key and don’t try to throw it to the opposite wall making the employees search for them in the entire area the next morning.
